Air source heat pumps
The standard choice for most homes in Kent. An outdoor unit takes heat from the air and feeds your radiators, underfloor heating and hot water.
Air sourceAir source, ground source and commercial heat pump installation across west Kent and the Weald, from a Tunbridge Wells base. Free heat loss survey, fixed quote and the grant deducted from your invoice.

Kent is a difficult county to generalise about. We work on 1930s semis in Tonbridge, Victorian villas in Tunbridge Wells, oast conversions around Marden and Goudhurst, listed cottages in Cranbrook, and modern estates at Paddock Wood and Kings Hill. The design approach for each is genuinely different, and that is the whole argument for a room-by-room survey over a floor-area estimate.
Two features of the county matter more than most. A large amount of solid wall property built before cavity construction, which raises heat loss and pushes up unit size. And a great deal of listed and conservation-area stock, particularly in Tunbridge Wells, Cranbrook, Goudhurst and Sevenoaks, where the outdoor unit position is a consent question before it is a technical one.
Rural west Kent has a lot of properties with no mains gas connection, running on oil or LPG. Those are the strongest heat pump cases in the county by a distance: oil is expensive and volatile, and the running cost saving from a well-designed heat pump is immediate rather than marginal.
It also matters financially right now. Off-gas-grid homes replacing heating oil can claim £9,000 rather than £7,500 for installations between 21 July 2026 and 31 March 2027.
Tunbridge Wells, Tonbridge, Sevenoaks, Southborough, Pembury, Paddock Wood, Cranbrook, Goudhurst, Hawkhurst, Marden, Staplehurst, Edenbridge, Hildenborough, Langton Green, Rusthall and Maidstone, plus the villages between. Our working radius is around 20 miles from Tunbridge Wells, which covers west Kent thoroughly.
Most domestic air source installations in England are permitted development, and the rules were relaxed in May 2025. But permitted development does not apply to listed buildings at all, and conservation areas and Article 4 directions need checking case by case. Central Tunbridge Wells, the Cranbrook and Goudhurst village cores and much of Sevenoaks are all affected. We check the designation before we design the position, not after.
An air source system typically costs £9,000 to £14,000 before grant on an average Kent house, and £14,000 or more on larger period property. After the £7,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant most households pay between £1,500 and £6,500.
West Kent and the Weald, roughly a 20-mile radius from Tunbridge Wells. That takes in Tonbridge, Sevenoaks, Paddock Wood, Cranbrook, Goudhurst, Hawkhurst, Edenbridge, Marden, Staplehurst and Maidstone. East Kent and the coast are outside the area where we can offer proper survey and breakdown response.
They are the strongest case in the county. Oil is expensive and price-volatile, so the running cost saving is immediate. On top of that, off-gas-grid homes replacing heating oil can claim £9,000 rather than £7,500 on installations between 21 July 2026 and 31 March 2027.
It is possible but it needs listed building consent, because permitted development does not apply to listed property. In practice that means careful siting, sometimes screening, and occasionally a ground source system to avoid a visible outdoor unit entirely. We have to design the consent case alongside the heating design.
