Air source heat pumps
The standard choice for most homes in Sussex. An outdoor unit takes heat from the air and feeds your radiators, underfloor heating and hot water.
Air sourceAir source and ground source heat pump installation across East Sussex and the High Weald, from Crowborough and Wadhurst down to Heathfield and Uckfield. Free heat loss survey and fixed quotes.

The High Weald has one characteristic that makes it, on paper, one of the better heat pump areas in the south east: a very large proportion of properties are off the mains gas grid. Crowborough, Wadhurst, Frant, Mayfield, Rotherfield, Heathfield and the surrounding villages are heavily oil-heated, and oil is both expensive and unpredictable.
Against oil, a well-designed heat pump produces a running cost saving that shows up immediately rather than marginally. It also removes the tank, the deliveries and the exposure to price spikes.
The financial case is unusually strong at the moment too. Off-gas-grid homes replacing heating oil can claim £9,000 rather than the standard £7,500 for installations between 21 July 2026 and 31 March 2027.
Wealden property is often old, solid walled and poorly insulated, which means a high heat loss and therefore a larger and more expensive heat pump. We survey these properties carefully and will tell you honestly where fabric work should come first. A heat pump bolted onto a leaky building is the classic way to end up disappointed with both the warmth and the bills.
The counterweight is that these are frequently larger houses on generous plots, which makes them among the few properties where ground source genuinely stacks up. If you have the land, horizontal loops on a large Wealden plot deliver the lowest running costs available.
Crowborough, Wadhurst, Frant, Mayfield, Rotherfield, Heathfield, Uckfield and East Grinstead, plus the surrounding villages of the High Weald. Our radius is around 20 miles from Tunbridge Wells, which covers northern East Sussex well. Coastal East Sussex and West Sussex beyond East Grinstead are generally outside it.
The High Weald has a high concentration of listed buildings and an AONB designation across much of it. Listed property is excluded from permitted development entirely and needs consent for an outdoor unit. We handle the siting and screening question as part of the design.
Yes. Crowborough, Wadhurst, Frant, Mayfield, Rotherfield, Heathfield, Uckfield and East Grinstead are all within our normal working radius, along with the surrounding High Weald villages.
Usually yes, and it is the strongest case we see. Oil is expensive and volatile, so the saving is immediate. Off-gas-grid homes replacing heating oil can also claim £9,000 rather than £7,500 on installations between 21 July 2026 and 31 March 2027.
It can, but the survey is critical. Solid wall, poorly insulated property has a high heat loss, which means a larger unit and higher running costs. We will tell you where fabric improvements should come first rather than sizing around the problem.
More so than in most areas we cover, because plot sizes are often large enough for horizontal loops. Where you have the land, it delivers the lowest running costs of anything available. We assess machine access at survey, since that is usually the deciding constraint.
